Discover historical Oxford!
Nicknamed ‘the City of Dreaming Spires’, Oxford has numerous tourist attractions, many belonging to its prestigious university which was established in the 12th century. Its medieval city centre hosts 38 colleges including University College and Magdalen College located off the High Street, as well as the famous Ashmolean Museum which is free to enter and houses a unique collection of art and rare artefacts. For the shopper, there are plenty of highlights, including Blackwell’s Bookshop, which claims the largest single room devoted to book sales in the whole of Europe (the Norrington Room at 10,000 sq. ft), the historic covered market, and the newly developed Westgate shopping centre with its many top brands including John Lewis and a variety of eateries on the rooftop.
